MASTERCLASS WITH JOHN ROBERTS
Carve a simple wooden marionette
A 5 day masterclass for adults; artists and creatives with an interest in
learning a puppet making technique such as carving. (max. 6 participants)
John will guide participants through the design, carving, joining, finishing and stringing of a simple wooden string puppet.
To achieve finished puppets in the time they will have no legs, rope arms and a simple body covered in a fabric skirt. This produces wonderful floating marionettes.
Participants will be asked to bring fabric to make a rudimentary skirt. All other materials and tools will be provided. The techniques used are fast – using very sharp chisels and soft wood, and can be done with very little equipment.
John is a master puppeteer and craftsman and has taught puppet carving for over 30 years. He is, considered by many, to be one of the best puppet carving teachers, is the author of 2 brilliant books of puppet construction and his courses are in high demand. He trained at The Little Angel Theatre under master puppeteer John Wright, and in China.
